What's music?..In my view music is a friend of everyone in this world...Everyone listens to music...no matter what type of music they listen...In the present world music has reached to an extreme height in the views of the people...Music can also be named as a mediator among the people of different ethnicity, communities, societies or nationalities. It is because music is the language that everyone can understand.
Now a days modern music has been prevailing all over the world rather than people's native traditional or folk music. The reason behind this can be the rise of the modern generation and modern thoughts among the people. This fact is somewhat good and somewhat bad....It's good because change in the music brings change in the taste of music people want to listen to and it's bad because people are forgetting their ancestors contribution in inventing music...they are forgetting that the folk or traditional music of one's nation sustains the pride of their nation..Promoting folk music means promoting or preserving the nations social culture...Despite all these reasons,it can't be said that listening to modern music is bad but we can listen to the music that we like...We can listen to any forms of music we like side by side we should preserve other forms of music too...Else a day might come that people say "once upon a time, there used to exist this form of music...."

Types of music
Basically, we can categorize music into two type..(i)traditional music and (ii)modern music..lets talk about these types of music in brief below:-
(i)Traditional Music:-
Talking about traditional music, it varies from a nation to other nations.Being a Nepali let's talk about traditional Nepali music.
The elements of music like beats, rhythm, bounce, etc. belonging to Nepali traditional folk and classical music brings comfort to our soul and entertaining enough to cheer us. Music is linked with Nepal to every event of life like festivals, feasts, marriage, birth ceremonies or funeral processions.Numerous songs, musical instruments and dances are associated with various aspects of life like religion, society and culture of the Nepalese. Music can be named as the heartbeat of every Nepali citizen.
Traditional Nepali music varies from east to west and north to south in the context of Nepal.various people belonging to various ethnic groups live from east to the west as well from the south to the north.Moving from the east various people of various ethnic group have their own kind of traditional music.Mainly, Nepal is divided into five development regions. They are:(I)Eastern Development Region (II)Central Development Region (III)Western Development Region (IV)Mid-Western Development Region (V)Far Western Development Region. In these development regions the way of the people's talking and lifestyle varies. So the music varies from place to place.
(ii)Modern Music:-
Musical scientists define pop music as "a body of music which is distinguishable from popular, jazz and folk musics".We can also define "pop music" as a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll.Pop music is also a kind of modern music.Similarly, rock music also can be said as a type of music which has evolved from pop music.
In the context of Nepal, modern music has not extended its field so much as the traditional music has extended. But it has been developing day-by-day.The fans of modern music has been growing in a rapid speed. Now a days even small kids listen to modern type of music.Rarely we hear kids singing or listening to traditional or folk music.Generally, the young generation in Nepal today, prefer modern forms of music rather than folk music. But modern music has not influenced the adult generation or old generation.

Components of music

Generally we find the musical play of guitars, drum and keyboard in a musical composition. To add a flavor to it now a days, DJ effects have been implemented.
Talking about guitars, I feel that its the most melodious musical instrument. The guitarist define their play as "expressing our feelings with the help of six strings." This quotation is a quiet sensible quotation. Most guitarist play guitar when they are happy or sad or in any kind of mood. I think its true with respect to my own experience. Many friends of mine who play guitars have said the same thing.

Music Band
A music band can be described as a brotherhood among few music personalities. It also can be described as a group of two or more musicians who perform instrumental or vocal music. In each musical style various criterion have been invented for the sizes and composition of different ensembles, and for the collection of songs or musical works that these groups perform.
Generally, a music band consists of a singer or a vocalist, a rhythm guitarist, a bass guitarist and a drummer. Some music bands may also consist of a DJ who adds extra flavor to the music or song. There are many bands in this present world. A band is a must to perform a musical composition. Even if an artist has an individual identity he requires a music band to complete his song.Today the a many individual artist as well as music bands who perform a song.
Pit Bull, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Ne-yo, B.O.B, Lady Gaga, Beyonce Knowles, etc are the most famous hip hop and dance song's artist in the international modern music. Talking about the rock and pop music Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Hoobastank, Metalliica, Simple plan, Enrique, etc are famous in the field of rock and pop music in the international music sector.Similarly, in Nepali pop music sector, especially, The Edge,C.O.D., Dipak Bajracharya, Nima Rumba, etc are famous artists and bands.

The edge band
The Edge Band is a Nepalese Classic Band , formed in 1998 in Pokhara. The Edge came into the Nepali Rock scene with a self titled debut in 2000. The video of the song “mero aasu” from the debut album, viewed a country wide popularity rush within a week of its official release. This success gave the band a much needed break into the majority music industry in Nepal. The album included other hits like jeewan mero, pagal nabhana, and abundant jams and rehearsals.

The new lineup is perhaps the most talented ever. Emerging from a deep interval the band cut their second album Vibes with Vajra Records in 2006. The album contains some of the most intelligent originals the band has in its credit till date. Recorded and mastered at Sacred Sound Studio, Kathmandu, Vibes shows the band’s technical ability, patience, and lyrical maturity. 'Thaha chaina', an orchestral arrangement; 'shanti ko sandesh', a hard rock with patriotic theme; 'kasailai', a steady rock groove; bhramma, an alternative experiment; ballads, 'jiuna lai garo' and 'dukha diyera'; and soothing 'prastab' and 'lekhiyeka shabda' demonstrate the cohesion amidst diversity in composition.Despite the obstacles in the voyage of the edge band, this band can be named as one of the most popuplar band in the era of Nepali music.
